Record From Built in freeview?

Hi,
Can you record freeview from a tv with built in freeview to a hdd dvd recorder?
When tuning the recorder in it only finds the restrial channels.
I have tried different ways of pluging it in but no luck.

Hi mate, you need to read the tv manual, somewhere in there it will tell you how to record/output to a recording device. You will find it has a timer just like the vcr, set the time,date & programme/channel number, once this has been done you need to do the timer on your recording device. Now, you will have your lead from tv to recorder, change the channel number on the recorder to whatever the input is, i.e. av 1, av 2 etc.this should now work ok........unless your tv has 2 digital tuners you'll have watch tv thro' the analogue tuner.

We were all newbies once, some people have trouble with manuals through disability or simply because they are badly written.

You could say RTFM to any question, it would not be helpful or constructive.

Now then Zappo, are you therefore saying I haven't been helpful or constructive, I tried to explain as best I could. The initial reference to the reading the manual was simply because every manufacturer and or model, will be different, and so I couldn't be more precise. My second reference to read the manual, was purely light hearted and I wished him good luck with a smile.

You cannot download the freeview channels from your idtv into the tuner of an analogue only dvd recorder. You can record from one of the TV's digital freeview channels but this means that you cannot then watch another freeview programme on the TV whilst the recording is taking place.

The best and easiest solution is to connect a freeview STB (any cheap one will do), to the AV2 input scart on your dvd recorder. Select AV2 as the recording source, having first set the freeview channel you require on the STB, and away you go. This leaves you to watch any other freeview channel using the TV's own tuner.

Note : some dvd recorders with smartlink or equiv have the ability to control the STB for dvd recordings.

Yes, but that's like saying "You cannot watch one Sky channel while sending another Sky channel to your DVD recorder via a Sky box." Surely one of the reasons for buying an idTV is to save having to buy a separate Freeview box - that's certainly why I bought an LCD with built in Freeview. If I was going to go out and buy a Freeview box anyway, I wouldn't have bought an idTV with Freeview built-in. While recording one of the Freeview channels via a scart socket on the TV, the OP can still watch an analogue terrestrial channel, a video or a DVD (if he/she has a DVD player as well as a DVD recorder). Let's face it, it's not often that there are two freeview only channels transmitting something that you would want to watch at the same time anyway.

Not true. I often record two freeview channels on my PVR's and watch another freeview channel at the same time. Normally prime times between 8 pm to 10pm.

Nor do I consider that I am the only person that does this. Sales of twin tuner PVR's are increasing and the main reason is that they will record two freeview channels simultaneously.
