Disney to Back both formats??

http://www.hdtvuk.tv/2006/03/lg_dual_format_.html

The article is more about dual format players but the second paragrah has this intriguing statment:

Several film studios, now including Disney, have also chosen to publish films in both types of format and it doesn’t seem to make sense for Joe Public to take a gamble on the eventual outcome.

Can't seem to get any independent confirmation of this in my Google searches. Has this been officially announced already?

Re: Disney to Back both formats

If this happens, it could mean that other companies will follow. Then a standalone player will play most films. Unfortunately you will never get all films on both formats. Casino Royale will always be Blue-Ray, I'm not sure what the HD-DVD equivelent is of Casino Royale. If there isn't an equivelent, then you should buy Blue-Ray when the price is right.

Re: Disney to Back both formats

I also didn't notice the date stamp. The article seems abreast with the upcoming LG debut of a dual format player at next week's CES. I guess that line about Disney was too intiguing to be true anyway.

Re: Disney to Back both formats

LG announced a dual format player then said they cancelled it, I guess that since the product is just about ready they decided to keep the development going on the quiet. Disney said in March last year that they would consider supporting both formats but since haven’t said much, if anything they have taken a more BR exclusive stance. However as the first example shows what companies say and what they do are often completely different.
