Burning DV footage to DVD-RW, Help needed by old git

As much as i've tried and read I cannot get footage to burn to a a DVD. The software i'm using is the Sony supplied (i know) DVgate plus and windows movie maker. Firstly, I should point out that i've never burnt anything to DVD before, so I'm not totally sure what do to. I used a new DVD-RW, first up it never asked me to format it? neither could i find out how to do this (under the DVD properties its coming up Used space 0 bytes, free space 0 bytes, is this normal?). I can get the footage in OK and plays in realplayer(but again does this have to be a certain codec going in to record onto DVD? about 15 different ones are available) I don't want to do any editing just put it down onto DVD to play in a player. If anyone has experience with these software packages then any help would be greatly appreciated, i thought this would be easy! Happy New Year and Best regards, Mark.

Re: Burning DV footage to DVD-RW, Help needed by old git

The usual procedure in a software package like Windows Movie Maker is to first capture the footage from the camera on to the PC, then drag the clips onto a storyboard and edit or not as you desire. Then you move on to the burn to DVD bit, where you select the quality and resolution of the final product.

For a more detailed guide try typing 'Windows Movie Maker Guide' into Google.

Good luck

Thanks Lisa, just found out I have Adobe Premier on the lap top and gave that a go, did a quick test and burnt it fine. I like the front end of this software so will be using this. Many thanks for all your help. Happy new year, Mark
