CRT help for newbie

I might be able to get my hands on and old (4 years) crt projector, but not sure if its worth it, and need some advice.

I can't remember the make or model so this will cause problems.

How easy is it to get replacement bulbs for older projectors?

How do you go about re tunning these?

Would it be able to handle prog scan if my DVD player can output this?

would the image be 4:3 or 16:9.

Sorry if this is vague, I just wanted to know if it would be worth it or if I should look at a newer display source?

I think we need to know the make and model but I'll make a few comments that should be of use.

You can get new cathode ray tubes (same as in your tv but smaller...... no bulbs though!) or you can get second hand ones from some of the local suppliers like Roland.
It will cost quite a bit to have tubes installed .

You need to check the tubes on the projector for "burn-in". Look at the tube surface thru the lens with a torch and look carefully for brown marks.

If the projector can handle a computer (vga) type input either on a vga or 5 bnc sockets, then it's likely that you'll be OK with that. The only difficulty is that your dvd player probably outputs a progressive component signal which would need to be converted to rgbhv. A device to do that will probably cost $300.

Most crt projectors can be set up for 16:9 or 4:3...... one with digital convergence can do either....but an older model with analog convergence can only be set for one at a time.

If its only 4 years old and coming from a comerical source. I would bet it has a digital control and alignemt will be much easier to set up than one that has loads of little knobs.

Tubes (bulbs) vary in price from about £300 each to £2500 each (you'll need three) for a 4 year old tubeswill have to be available.

We need a make and model though.

I know it has been connected to a PC before, I think with the 5 BNC connectors
