false wall connecting to wall units?
I think I'm now fairly certain what my plans will be for the lounge (work to start in March when the wife leaves for a month at her folks)
She wants gloss white units in the alcoves, floor to ceiling (lovely for the PJ @_@ )
we found ones from IKEA we like - BESTA. Bit shallow for kit but I'll work around that.
I was thinking that instead of having bascially a couple of tall bookcases with doors on with an obvious gap either side (alcove wider than bookshelf), that it'd be good to make them look more built in. I was thinking along the lines of building a false wall just slightly in front of the current chimney breast and joining it to the wall units. This would also give the effect of the TV being slightly recessed (I'd leave it where it is on the chimney breast)
But how tricky would that be, considering bookcases are fairly free standing, so I'm concerned about movement. Would it be just as simple to get whoever is building the wall to build their own units as well, and just make sure they are designed to fit the IKEA doors on (64/38cm high)?
