Perhaps to watch an existing dvd collection Also how do you experience next gen interactivity such as BD Live on this "next gen" player ?

Re: no DTS on the samsung BD-P1000 for dvd's

I've got hundreds of SD DVD's and I'm not going to stop watching the great films I have in SD becuase it simply isn't as good as HD. Likewise I'm unlikely to replace them all in HD even when they are avaliable. I think SD will still be important for many people on here.

Back to the OP, (and I'm going to show my complete ignorance here) can the samsung not ouput the 'raw sound' to an AV amp with DTS decoding somehow...

There are over 50,000 DVD titles and some people have 00's or even 000's of SD discs. I got the Tosh last May but I still watch and buy plenty of SD material as well as HD. I suspect I may not be alone

Re: no DTS on the samsung BD-P1000 for dvd's

i have gone the opposite,, i agree with kourosh i cant bare to watch standard dvd's atall anymore they look and sound bloody awful , i have been selling my whole dvd collection,i did that with vhs to dvd now im doing it with dvd to HD dvd its the way forward you only live once and i would rather sell all my current dvd's and slowly replace and buy all the latest films on HD i do not want to be stuck with old dvd's when there is a new format out plus by selling them off its money towards new HD discs
i really dont know how anyone can watch sd dvd after experincing hi def i have sky HD and even that is a fair step up from dvd alot of the films they put on sky hd9 are awesome pQ..

I agree HD material is better but the title choice is very limited in comparison to DVD. It also depends on what system you use to watch DVD as to how bad it looks.

I also have Sky HD and once again the material is currently very limited and the PQ varies considerably. I would feel somewhat ripped off if been I'd asked to pay £359 that some people payed.

i didnt say anyone did............................it was just a question
if you look at the current hd-dvd and blu-ray catalog they are coming out thick and fast especially 2007.
so i would imagine people like your selves with hd players will use SD less and less

dont get me wrong i have been watching dvds for many years on decent flat panel tv,s i have had 6 plasmas and 3 lcd's all which have been the flagship models when they come out.

i now have the sony x series and dvd does look great but after watching HD it just looks to soft lacks detail hence it looks awful in comparison.

And as for sky HD i cant moan as i paid £99 and have 2 sky HD boxes for that price one in the living room 1 in the bedroom so i think its great ,there is no way i would have paid for the box @ 299 or even £149 for that matter i was heart broken paying a ton for the two boxes after all i build pc's like many on here and know how much the components cost and that crappy thompson box is not worth jack s... and i feel for anyone who paid full or even half price for it but some are not so lucky as to know peolple who can sort them out in such things ..

But going back to dvd up untill i moved to hd i thought like many it looked great and there some some new release dvd that still have a spanking good picture for the format but things move on and dvd for me just doesnt cut it anymore and plus the fact i will be getting my sony ruby shortly and want to make the most of what HD material there is on that beast.

I would prefer to buy in HD but whilst the release schedule will ramp up I'm not sure that all new stuff will be day/date with DVD.

I'm also holding back on BD until it gets it's act together so I will probably continue with buy DVD or use Sky HD for BD exclusive material.

I build PC's too. I would be interested how you could build a HD compatible PC with PVR, twin digital tuners, 250 GB hard drive and legit software [plus remote] for £149? or £299 for that matter
