SKY+ optical to VP50 - popping \ clicking on channel change

Have just connected the SKY+ (original Pace model) to the VP50 via TOS\optical, each time I change channel there is a momentary pop\click like static. I would suspect due to the audio signal being locked?

Is this expected (symptom) of the VP50 or possibly a faulty SKY+ box?

Have never used the optical out of the SKY+ until now. Not evident when using the analogue audio looped through the TiVo to the analogue audio in on the VP50...

Have tried the TOS cable in both optical in's on the VP50.

Any help... its driving me crazy..., having to surf channels via the TiVo then switch to SDI...

I get the same noises from SkyHD to VP50 using the optical out/in (coax out from the VP50 to processor). My Tag AV192 has relay muting which I have enabled, this elliminates the "click/pop" but substitutes relay switching noises...... The HDMI audio from SkyHD does not have the same noises but unfortunately Sky don't support multi-channel on HDMI so this is not an acceptable solution.

I am still on FW 1.0, maybe this is the issue?

Anyone know when 1.01 will be "release" rather than beta?

Didn't notice it on my system when I was with 1.0.

Curious, just how loud/annoying is it?

I have both audio outputs connected, optical to an Audio Alchemy DAC which feeds the audio back into the Pioneer media box for standard TV. The coax to the a/v amp.

1) via optical to the DAC \ TV very noticable.

2) via coax thru the amp, much less so.


It certainly seems to be related to optical in as the analogue thru the VP to the DAC does not exhibit the sound at all. I do sometimes hear a click from the HTPC which is connected to the other optical in on the VP.

I will see if I can record it.

Without the Tag mute relays it is sometimes loud/severe enough to sound "speaker damaging", just like momentarily shorting the speaker terminals... a loud crack.

Solved the problem... switched to another DAC, which I think waits until it is fully sync'd the signal before outputing any audio.... well pleased.

For anyone interested its called a "Digital Dialogue" made by a guy in Taiwan.

I sometimes get popping from my Sky HD box, to my TAG AV192R processor. (I don't have the VP50). It's not as bad as to describe it as a crack, and doesn't happen all of the time. Never used to have an issue with the optical out of my Sky+ box, so I guess the root of the problem lies with the Sky HD box?

Me too - finally received my SKY HD box yesterday & hooked it all up without problem - but started wondering why there was a loud crack in one of my rear channels whenever I switch between "HD" channels.
Any ideas why this happens ?

Earthing the HD box has reduced the problem further... but still "clicks" on channel change... better than the "crack" which was louder.

My system earth uses a copper rod in the garden...

Can you provide any more details ? Internet search didn't show anything - where did you get it from / cost / how is it fitted ?

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? I have Sony STR DG910 and the pop/click between certain channels over optical is both concerning and annoying!
