It clearly shows HD-DVD add on to be better than the PS3 Blurry internal drive

But they are all on the same screen with the same settings ... so why would being calibrated make any difference??? It shows the blurry is exactly that and that they are not exactly the same (ps3 vs xbox 360hd)

If you calibrated the screen to each picture then it wouldnt be a fair test...

Re: PS3 Blu-ray vs Xbox 360 HD DVD with screen shots

Different source invariably need different calibration, other than that I thought the differences in detail he kept pointing at didn't actually exist, maybe be I'm going blind, maybe higher res screen shots would have helped!

I hadn't realised what a mess the interactivity was on BR at the moment, as Nic has mentioned several times it all looks a bit unfinished...

Surely that's the only way to make it a fair test!

Well all I can say, if I had seen that before buying either of my HD formats, I wouldn't have bothered - none of them looked particuarly good in my view.

No matter which system you purchased, wouldn't you calibrate to get the best picture?

They maybe on the same screen, but they have been connected differently - what was the cable quality? How long was each cable? etc etc

If you connected two AV amps with the same speakers, wouldn't you calibrate each AMP? Wouldn't just connecting them be unlikely to demonstrate their attributes?

I always find it hard to take these sort of things seriously - we are shown stills of HD format saved as 640 x 480 jpegs?

His methods stink, but at least he came to the right conclusion.

If he prefers HD, that's cool by me, but why would you possibly try to base a review on screenshots?

Re: PS3 Blu-ray vs Xbox 360 HD DVD with screen shots

I'm sorry but based on those screens there is no way the man in the street would pay for the premium of HD video over standard DVD. The improvement is just not obvious enough. Although i blame the dodgy pics
