Cinema Seats - mounting ideas please
Hi, I've currently got a row of 3 very nice 1950s cinema seats which are bolted into my floor. The only problem is I really want a bit more flexibility in terms of their position. They're a tad too close to the screen and I can make out some SDE (particularly in bright scenes) even though I've got an HD72 DLP. So rather than redrilling holes in my laminate flooring I am wondering whether it would work to mount each of the seats' 'feet' on blocks of wood? Then I could move them back and forward as required. Has anyone any experience of this option? Any other ideas? The only other alternative I can see would be to sell my seats and buy a nice leather sofa instead. I'd be loathe to lose them as they really are a nice feature, but then again a nice new sofa would be somewhat more comfortable.
I'd appreciate your suggestions guys!

Re: Cinema Seats - mounting ideas please
i think your only solution would be to mount them on some wood (obviously sanded and painted to match your current floor), the only thing i would watch out for is how easy they would tip if you lean back, but you could make the back piece bigger to componsate that.

Re: Cinema Seats - mounting ideas please
Hi Louis, thanks for the post. Yeah, that was my thinking too, but as you say, tipping is a concern, plus it might look a bit odd with the seats sitting on a raised platform in the middle of my room. I dunno, I love these tip up seats but I'm thinking about selling them on and getting a two seater leather recliner instead! If any one is interested keep an eye on the sales section, as these may pop up there sometime.... But then again, they are lovely and I might just keep them after all. Can't decide! Oh, the worry of it all

Re: Cinema Seats - mounting ideas please
Ok so Im more of a hatchet man on a budget but it worked for me. I got a new carpet for my home cinema room and had a kitchen worktop lying about which was no use for the kitchen so for my two rows of two cinema chairs I cut the worktop into two bits, folded the carpet around them and stapled it on and then screwed the seats onto the wood. This gave them the weight to hold them down but also the ability to move them about.

Hi Ripco, sounds very interesting. I have some questions... What's the kitchen worktop made of and how deep is it? I've got my seats bolted to the floor with 3" screws at the moment, how long are the ones you used? Any chance of a photo?

Sorry Im not very technical at all, its a bog standard white covered piece of worktop about 2 inch - 2 and half inch thick. The worktop was about 2 metres long and simply cut down the middle.

Many thanks Ripco, that's really helpful - I'm sure others will do so too when they find this thread. BTW, nice slippers too ! Any way, I think I'm going to give your idea a try!
