renewing Norton internet security 2006

When i purchased my computer i got bundled Norton security 2006 free for 90 days, this has now expired and asking me to renew the key for £35 online. Had a quick look on ebay and there are loads of full packages with key for £10. My question is : Can i purchase one of these full products on ebay and just use the key? or do i overwrite my current 2006 copy with the new one?
I do want to keep the Norton on the laptop, just looking at the cheaest way to keep it updated! any help on this greatly appreciated.

Re: renewing Norton internet security 2006

My advice is this: dump Norton ASAP. And get a free & better soulution.

If you still want norton, then go for norton. If you purchase a new copy, you'll overwrite the current one.

Can't disagree with that, I've never heard a good word said about Norton.

Their website has a removal tool - you will need to download it and run it.

A friend told me his Norton firewall blocked him from renewing his sub at the Norton site. I'd argue that was a 'good word' said about Norton.

Markbigears,
consider Zonealarm firewall and AVG anti virus.
Both free and very good

I couldnt agree more. Both Zone Alarm and AVG are excellent.

I also use Adaware and spybot for spyware, which are also free.

Dont be put off by the fact that you dont have to hand over money.... honestly, you dont get what yuo pay for with this sort of stuff imo.

Re: renewing Norton internet security 2006

So you've got some other options re NIS I'd suggest getting an OEM copy of NIS 2007 from somewhere like Scan for around £20, it comes with 12 mths subscription. Be aware that some ebayers will be selling hacks to 2006 to fool the software into giving you extended time.

NIS can be good for some people, particularly with the parental controls.

Re: renewing Norton internet security 2006

I wouldn't install Norton on my worst enemies computer.

Avoid. There are plenty of other alternatives....a lot of them free.

Re: renewing Norton internet security 2006

Here is the latest test I read.
I dont know how accurate these tests are but I suppose its some indication. Better than nothing!

Commodo stuff is free I think too. They do either a spyware or antivirus program too. I tried them but stuck with zone alarm. Kaspersky would have been my second choice.

Agreed Sygate is the firewall for me. ZA just plain sucks imo. Shame symantec bought it out.
