Wireless router advice

Guys need some urgent help.

I'm going online soon with Tiscali at my flat but want wireless for my laptop, Wii & 360 so was just wondering if this router would do the job??

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/produ...oductID=524197

It's currently on special in Scans today only job for about £40ish & need to know if it's worth it pretty quick (delas change at 12)

So will this do the job or are there better for less money??
It has to have a PCMCIA card included in the bundle as my Laptop is 2 years old (Toshiba Satelite) & has no Wi/FI or wireless connection built in so need the PCMCIA card to make it wireless enabled.

Thanks for any help it's appreciated.

Neil

Re: Wireless router advice

Under the technical specs tab it says 'Modem Cable (WAN)' which I assume means it just has an ethernet WAN port which can be hooked up to an external modem.

That would be fine for me with a cable modem but I'm not sure how it would work in an ADSL setup, will your modem connect via ethernet or USB? Some routers have built-in ADSL modems which would be better.

Thats eaxclty the advice I was after thank you I dont have any modem at all & was under the impression that that router would do the lot but obviously I need a modem to begin with??

So I would be better looking for an all in one Modem & router then?
Do you have any recommendations at all??

Thanks for the help it's appreciated.

Re: Wireless router advice

Router with built-in adsl modem sounds like the best solution for you.

I don't have the same setup so I don't know any specific routers to suggest.

I started off buying D-Link kit for my wireless setup. I found my PC lost connection fairly frequently & I had to reset the router every couple of days. When I started using a laptop as well I added a D-Link PCMIA card but it was the worst piece of junk I've ever bought. It would lock up the PC every few minutes & I had to remove it to unfreeze windows, when it wasn't doing that & it would cause windows to crash. I swapped it for a Linksys card & that's been perfect.

Thanks for that Pete.

Just saw this for about the same money that says its a Modem as well obviously I'll need to add a PCMCIA card later as it only comes with one of those dodgy USB thingies but would this do the job & be okay?

sorry for all the questions but wireless is all new to me & dont wanna waste my money if poss.

Re: Wireless router advice

The linked router looks to be able to get you connected ok.

Many people on here will have used one make or another and had problems with the equipment, but only had goosd experience from another make. I personally have only ever used Netgear routers and been very happy with them, but other on here have reported loads of problems with them. I guess most makes will have this split of good and bad experiences.

A few more options on modem/routers around £40 can be found Here.

Mark.

Re: Wireless router advice

You would really be better off sticking with the known brands such as Netgear/Linksys/D-Link/Belkin
