CPU fan for older board

Hi,
My athlon 1100 cpu fan is making a noise and on the way out.Have cleaned it but to no avail. It was the original fan/heatsink with two clips ,socket a on a gigabyte ga71xe4 board.Originally a 700 duron cpu. Can i replace this with any newer fan/heatsink socket a? Have seen a quiet one in ebuyer for around 5.5 pound.Needs to be relatively quiet but dont want to spend much more than this.
Thanks
Gav

Re: CPU fan for older board

Hi, you should be able to replace the fan with anything of the same socket, the only thing you will have to watch for really is any capacitors located close to the CPU and having a large heatsink, apart from this they should all be ok.

What I would do is google the model number of the fan you are interested in on ebay and you should get the specs.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at the user reviews on Ebuyer, usually give you a good idea of how quiet the fans are.
