Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0

Before the main body of my post, here are some details of the laptop I'm running:

Windows XP, Home Edition, Service Pack 2, version 2002
Intel Celeron CPU 2.93 GHz
448 MB of RAM

Today, I discovered a new folder in my d: drive named c431859143373b44eea7c173b3 (yes, that really is the folder's name ). Inside the folder is a file named msxml4-KB927978-enu.

Anyway, I had no idea how the hell it go there and so I "Googled" for the file name. It turns out that the file was put there by Windows Update, details of which can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=927978

Although I never had any error messages when downloading the update, I can't figure out why this file (which seems to be the result of verbose logging) was put in my d: drive. And, from reading the above URL, I can't tell if the update has actually been a success.

If I go into Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs, I have MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978). Can anyone confirm this is what I should have? And should I be able to safely delete msxml4-KB927978-enu (I can post the contents of this file if anyone thinks it's worth doing so, but it contains a lot of text)?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Re: Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0

Just delete nothing will go wrong, windows keeps all the essential files in \windows.
