PS3, UK price?

In the UK only the higher spec machine is set to be released.

I've just seen on the Play.uk site their PS3 price of £549 ($1040 approx) delivered - admittedly that's a 3 game bundle but that's still hundreds of pounds (ie way way waaaaaay) over the XBox 360 bundle charge.

So much for the 'affordable' Blu-ray player.

Rip-off Britain continues.

Re: PS3, UK price?

I think the PS3 retail price is supposed to be in the region of £425 incl 60Gb hard drive and WiFi.

Whereas the 360 is £280rrp, HD DVD add on is £130 rrp so £410 total with only a 20Gb HDD and no Wifi. You might find a slightly cheaper bundle but there isnt way way waaaayyyy much difference.

My import PS3 was only £360 delivered - excellent value

Re: PS3, UK price?

Is it possible that Sony will release the cheaper model in the UK now that the specification has been improved to include HDMI?

Re: PS3, UK price?

I thought Sony had decided to release both versions in the UK now? It changes so often it's difficult to keep up It will be very interesting to see the RRP of the final units though!

Re: PS3, UK price?

Absolutely nothing has been confirmed by Sony yet.

Both the 20GB and 60GB versions have their own spec sheets up on the European PS3 web site. So you can read what you like into that, it probably means we'll get both versions eventually but it doesn't necessarily have to apply to launch allocations if you like a good conspiracy.

The same goes for price. No official confirmation at all. All Sony have said so far is €600 (£420) and €500 (£350) back in May at the E3. It's possible they may "adjust" the prices slightly before launch as they did in Japan but don't hold your breath on that one!

If they really are going to stick to a March launch they'll have to confirm this stuff pretty soon (before end of JAN?) and sort out a pre-order scheme which will most likely involve some sort of centrally ran voucher system as with the PS2 launch.

Please tell me why you say that? I would think it is extremely likely, given that Sony need to lowest possible price in the market.

To be honest I don't think anything has changed much - it's ussually unsubstantiated claims [e.g above] that seem to change with the wind. They're both shown on the PS3 website. I would imagine that they will make some big announcements at CES re next launch / availability / final prices.

Where from? Sounds like a good deal. I really don't see the sense in buying a UK PS3 as a "cheap" Blurry player.

Assume your PS3 was a 20GB, but was it US, JP or HK?

Thanks,

Rob.

Yes, because the fact that both Gears of War and Dead Rising were banned in Germany really made a difference to the UK release...
