Re: new dvd r disc help please

what writer is it ?
Also check out SVP - they stock a good selection of media and report on how they fare on various writers. So you can get a good match-up.
If you have a dvd-recorder under your telly you may want to opt for disc compatible with that so you can (record and) play on PC and DVD recorder box.

Re: new dvd r disc help please

Do you have - or are you planning to get - a DVD recorder to plug into your telly ?
Do you want to print nice pictures on the top surface of the DVDs ?

Re: new dvd r disc help please

if your recorder (will) need -R disc then stick to them. if it needs +r discs then stick to them. Have not looked to see if your DVD drive supports DVD-RAM discs.
Suggest you research recorders a little and see what likely format you will use on that box and then go for that format - but the last sentence in this post is very relevant to that decision.
e,g my dvd recorder uses -R so I use a lot of those. but also can use double layer +R discs on PC so also use those. can also use DVD-RAM.
there are more pages in the SVP knowledge base that will help with this.
What formats does your drive support ?

Re: new dvd r disc help please

Okay - I cheated and looked. Looks like your drive supports many formats.
wwwdotciaodotcodotuk/LiteOn_LH_18A1H__6576145#productdetail

so you can pick what you like.
Compatibility with any future DVD recorder the only factor.
try the SVP sample packs for starters maybe.
and pay attention to their ratings. DVD blanks like everything else cheaper is not always best..
Also try dual layer as then you can make true fair use copies (with no extra compression) of your precious DVDs.

Re: new dvd r disc help please

DVD RAM is a Panasonic format.
Dual layer has twice the capacity of single layer. Commercial DVDs of films are on dual layer as they need the extra capacity.
I think the svp pages describe these better than I can.
