Recommend a good PC media player

As per the title really. I have for years used MS Windows Media Player which has pretty much served its purpose. I have to say though that each new incarnation seems to become much more to my disliking in layout and operation, Unnecessarily complicated and a royal pain to do even the simplest of tasks.
Today I downloaded version 11 after having problems with 10 which lasted all of 2 hours before doing a restore to get back to 10.
What a pile of pants !!
Anyway I am now looking for a intuitive easy to use player that will also rip and burn and most importantly is free.
Your recommendations and reasons for doing so much appreciated.

Re: Recommend a good PC media player

I didn't even last 2hrs - I did a system restore back to v10 within half an hour of installing v11

If you want an easy to use player, get Video LAN - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Plays EVERYTING... DVD's (with full menu options) and all types of VCD, aswell as mp4/mepg/etc etc..... Brilliant, and FREE

Re: Recommend a good PC media player

Glad its not just me then. I already have vlc but am looking for something a bit more comprehensive mainly for audio with playlists, riping cd's and burning cd's and easy to sort libraries etc. SOmething like WMP but that works.
