Sound formats

Just a quick question for anyone who owns Blu-ray and HD-DVD in here. What's the quality of the multi-channel PCM soundtracks like on the Blu-ray discs like? Is it comparable to the Truehd soundtracks on HD-DVD or is it slightly better or worse than DD+? Will Blu-rays be featuring Truehd soundtracks in the future or is it an exclusive thing with HD-DVD's?

Re: Sound formats

It is excellent and probably the best sound available on AV formats. No (few?)direct comparison are really possible however but it is one of the best things about BD for me. Too little is written about it here. On audio side I think BD has the advantage over HD DVD, and it is certainly more flexible IF they deliver players / processors that can decode these new audio formats.

Re: Sound formats

Aren't the PCM tracks all 16bit so far? The lossless codecs both offer much greater dynamic range than this afaik, so in theory they have the potentual to sound better, although you might find yourself with an ASBO if you try to appreciate it to often

John.

Yes, so they can only get better from here.
