Re: Player that supports both formats ?

Lots of rumours at present: Hitachi-LG, Samsung and Pioneer have all been linked to dual players. The general consensus seems to be that PC drives supporting both will appear around the third generation (2008) - and players sometime after that.

Re: Player that supports both formats ?

If and when a universal players arrive for both formats, the first generation would still be too expensive for the mass markets. I would think the double licensing and the new dual reading lasers would make it so. The circuit chips also but maybe not that much. The Broadcom chips used in HD DVD players are said to be used in Blurry players as well. But the software hardcoding that effectvely dual-boots into Linux and WIndows may also add to it. By that time, I would guess that the getting a Tosh A1/A2 and a PS3 could be a lot cheaper than getting a first generation universal player.
