Software Based DVD Upscaling

Is it possible for a windows / linux software based DVD player to feature 'upscaling'? Or can this effect only be achieved via 'hardware' ?

Re: Software Based DVD Upscaling

Computer solutions always scale unless you are outputting at the exact same resolution as the material itself.

All software players will use the graphics hardware for scaling as a matter of course. If you use ffdshow in conjunction with zoomplayer or Theatertek you can use software scaling rather than the hardware or even a combination of both.

There is a mountain of posts about this.
