Strange goings on with Freeview and analogue reception....

So, here's my set up. Two TV's downstairs, each has their own STB. Aerial on roof, coax coming down side of house into the wall > wall plate with two RF points. From wall point, coax under the floor to each TV. RF cable into each STB, STB connected via SCART.

Now this has been fine for about a year, but for some reason, past couple of days (maybe a week - not too sure as it's my mothers house and I rarely watch TV downstairs) one of the TV's has been fine with digital reception (STB) and also with analoge reception (TV only), but the other TV, sitting room, has incredibly poor BBC analogue reception, but brilliant BBC Digital reception. But the channels on the ITV mux (ITV 1, 2, 3, 4, ch4, e4 etc) have been diabolical, so much so that they are un watchable. The signal indicator on the STB UI says it's getting virtually no signal, and fluctuates incredibly badly between non-existent, and tiny tiny bit of reception....

Played about with the cables today and got the digital reception in the sitting room (the one that was bad) working okay, but the signal strength still isn't as good as the STB in the middle room (hereby known as STB#2, which has full signal bar on ITV channels) as the sitting room (hereby known as STB#1) has 1/2-3/4 signal, but has stopped "breaking up" like it was before. TV#1 tho has incredibly bad analogue BBC reception, but good on other 4 channels, whilst TV#2 has good digital and good analogue reception...

What gives?

I am wondering if the coax that runs under the floor from the wall point in the middle room to the sitting room has got damaged or something....

Have you swapped the connections over on the box and tried running each of them with the other unplugged? It's probably not good practise splitting a signal between two separate boxes without amping it.

Re: Strange goings on with Freeview and analogue reception....

I have tried with the other switched off ect (no real difference) but not swapping each box over (cannot be arsed to pull them all out and unplug etc)

Whats odd is they have been fine for a year (maybe a bit more, got them in Dec last year) only untill last week or so...

Re: Strange goings on with Freeview and analogue reception....

Many Freeview boxes where the power supply is incorporated into the 13A plug are starting to fail...(and a few where the psu is built-in) the components within the psu start to cook and the end effect can give the impression of a poor signal with some channels missing/breaking up.
What make/model are the Freeview boxes?
