Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

First I've heard of this problem, have been playing movies for a couple of weeks without any problems at all. Might just have a faulty drive or something.

Not only Blu-Ray freezes, HD DVD does too, with some movies. Got King Kong and it did the same once, there could be several explanations for it, don't know which though. It's a new format people, DVD did the same back in the day's it was introduced, it's no big deal

Interestingly I have never had a freeze up on my HD DVD XA1 or BluRay BDP1000. Guess I must be lucky...

I read over on AVSForums of some one having the same trouble with freezing and some one else said they had it too,, pretty sure some one on AVForums PS3 section has has had it too.

Still 4 reports is hardly massive, if it was common I would of thought there would of been more reports of this.

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

I had Troy freeze on one of my HD-DVD players. But I suspect it might have been a fingerprint or something on the disc, as I couldnt replicate the problem on the other player, and then it played ok on the first one.

Both formats seem very robust.

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

the movie was superman 2 the donner cut and it froze twice. i had read a couple of reports of it on 1 up and av forums.

1 freeze up in a movie is bad. two is unacceptable - especially as blueray doesn't seem to have a scene index that i can find (on superman 2 anyway), so you have to fast forward through the disk.

i thought it was commen. if not, looks like my drive is screwed.

Are you sure it's not the disc?

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

I'm a bit concerned as my PS3 arrived today....and I have the same problems. Got rid of my Jap one so I can play my R1 discs, but on 2 BDs and 1 SD DVD I experienced freezing

Anyone else come across this? I'm wondering if it's a faulty unit

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

Smurfin, Have you updated the Firmware?

If the firmware is 1.54 (latest) then try disconnecting from the network and see if that helps during replay.

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

Hi Jakal

Just checked and it's firmware 1.51. Although internet was enabled, even though it's not yet connected to my network.

Not quite sure what to do. I find it bizarre that some people experience problems and others don't....if so, how can it be down to firmware if people are running the same version? (as I believe alot of people are blaming these problems on)

cheers
Matt

Re: Sony PS3 Blueray Freezing :(

It is definitely odd. According to other forums it is definitely firmware related (I have only encountered the odd 1 second freeze) and there will be a proper 'fix' in the 1.6 March update.

Out of interest, how do you have the Unit orientated? Flat or on it's side?

I would try the 1.54 update as some say that has fixed the problem. Only other option I guess is a return before you update if there is a 30 day returns on your unit.
