4306 and Toshiba HD-XA1

Hello,

Got the 4306 on Monday so I have not had a major play yet. One thing that I cannot work out (I have read the manual) is how the sound is flagged.

The HD-XA1 is plugged in via HDMI and COAX, whatever film I play the 4306 flags as DTS, despite the film being DD, also when I switch to True Surround in the menu, nothing changes apart from the sound becomes noticeably quieter.

Does anyone have some pearls of wisdom?

The coax can't pass the DD+ so reencodes as DTS (1.5 Mbps DTS though)
The HDMI should pass the DD+
True HD can only pass through HDMI or the analog outs and needs Firmware 2.0 on the Tosh

Cheers

Yes that is right, remove the coaxial connection and assign HDMI as the digital audio in the setup menu. You are going to be very impressed with the results! It should default to multichannel in when you play a HD DVD and the great thing is you can apply Audyssey.

I am pretty sure as I know that even the 3806 will accept multi-channel PCM over HDMI. If I am wrong shoot me

Hi, no it registers it as multichannel in. The great thing is though that you can also apply Dolby PLIIx to the 5.1 signal.
