Old powerhouse vs the new techo kid ?

A1se vs 3805 ..

Hypothetically,if they offered the same functions,ie hdmi switching doesnt matter etc.

Just for listening to,processor and amplifier wise, and possible bragging rights, both offered at same price..the old no holds barred flagship,or the newer ,possibly more technicaly advanced, middle of range.

What would you choose and why.

Re: Old powerhouse vs the new techo kid ?

I'd guess there is very little in them.
The top of the range amp will have the best DACs available, obviously.
But they get passed down to the next gen amps somewhere along the line, while the new top of the range will get the newest, if you see what I mean.

I have read your other post but wasn't sure how to answer it.
I have a 3803 and it's great, goes loud enough whilst staying pretty clean.
Both would do a fine job, IMO.
If you have reasonable ability in setting up your amp, I wouldn't worry about auto setup. It costs money so if it's not needed, I can't see the point.
The THX logo doesn't do a lot for me either, again another chunk of money going elsewhere in the license fee or whatever.
Have a look at the specs for both.
One plus I reckon the A1 would have is in the power supply.

Basically doesn't answer your question, does it?
In other words, I'd go for the one that floats your boat.
Me? The A1, purely because I'd have something that was amongst the best in the world, albeit a few years ago.

A1SE and if it's the upgraded version, even more so. Much beefier Amplification, better Pre-Amp section and overall sound quality is better.

I would go with the A1SE. I have heard an A1SRA and would swap it with my 3805 in the blink of an eye!
