Fantastic freeview site!!!!! Sticky???

I don't know if anyone has linked to this before, but it has a postcode availability checker and a nifty connection wizard for wiring your gear together.

I reckon if it was linked in a sticky, it would save some basic questions being asked repeatedly.
I'll leave it to you mods to see if it's worth it.

Yes they have, somewhere on here regarding reception, but it's worth repeating.

Re: Fantastic freeview site!!!!! Sticky???

I just had a mate phone me up.
He's in Cov, I'm in Brum.
He's set his telly up and can only receive Beeb and ITV, via his built in Freeview box.
After a bit of headscratching, I mooched the web and found the site.
It turns out he can't receive Freeview

Saved me hours of faultfinding etc over the phone and a probable visit

Re: Fantastic freeview site!!!!! Sticky???

The checker in the retailer section of the same site gives more information.

http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/

None of these checkers are absolutely accurate of course as they do not take local problems/advantages into account. These dtg checkers are better than the the Freeview one though in my experience.

There is of course also wolfbane

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?DX=L&HT=10&OS=

for really detailed reception data.

Re: Fantastic freeview site!!!!! Sticky???

You can get it in Cov no bother, but you need a digital aerial on a decent length of pole.

Re: Fantastic freeview site!!!!! Sticky???

There is no such thing as a "digital aerial".
He may need a wideband aerial or a high gain one or both.

I did actually tell him it was by no means definitive and that it might be possible with a better aerial. I said he'd be best off speaking to a local installer and he reckons he knows someone.
In the end we decided that he'd be better looping his skybox that he uses upstairs for the kids.
I've left it with him anyway.

Cheers for the heads up
