Hello everyone!

Can you please give me some feedback on what the Sky Broadband is like, reliability, speed, support etc.? I am considering switching from Pipex.

Many thanks!

Why don't you ask in the ISPs subgroup of the Entertainment and Computers section ?
I am sure I have seen threads about $ky broadband in there.

I changed to Sky broadband when I moved house recently and to be honest, they compare favourably to the other providers I have used (NTL and Talk Talk).

Initially, I ws with NTL but after my house move, I tried to subscribe to Talk Talk, purely becaust they were cheaper. I now know why - they are crap! I won't go into the problems I had, but I swiftly moved to Sky. I received all of my equipment very quickly and was up and running in no time.

I had a few queries initially, which were all quickly resolved by the customer support line (which was answered quickly, and based in the UK, unlike Talk Talk!).

I have read various threads from people complaining that Sky would not give the correct setting to configure Outlook, however, I had no problems whatsoever. In case you decide to go with them and you use Outlook, you can configure your account through Outlook by creating a new account in outlook and POP3 server, then setting incoming mail server as pop.sky.com and outgoing mail server as smtp.sky.com.

I prefer to run my email through Outlook and the only issue I have is that if you configure it to send/receive when you click on the button, it takes a while longer for your new mail to arrive and for you to be able to consequently view it. When I used NTL, configured through Outlook, my new mail arrived and was able to be read within seconds. I am talking minutes rather than hours though!

Overall, I have been happy with the service and am more than happy with the bill at the end of the month, when compared to my previous provider!

Tommo.

Thanks welshtommo!

What package are you on, if you don't mind me asking?

Any more Sky Broadband customers?

im on the max package moved from Tiscali.

after some tweaking for torrents and capping my line to reduce errors I have a speedy and stable 6 meg line that needs virtually no rebooting of the router these days.

Also works a treat for xbox live

Very happy and cant complain for £10 a month.

Hi Dutomic - on the mid package - £5/month which is ample for my needs. I am a heavy general surfer but don't download much in the way of music or movies, so depends what sort of usage you intend. Getting regular 6meg speed too. Also got the Sky Talk package for an extra fiver a month. Good value in my opinion.

I've had it a few months now but recently it's been really playing up. It's constantly disconnecting making online gaming on xbox live completely useless as it keeps kicking me out of games or guests off when i'm hosting.

I've had more problems in the last 30 mins than I had with 3 years with NTL, who I may go back to if this carries on. I'm more than willing to pay a solid, reliable service like i used to enjoy with NTL.

If it carries on like this and they don't get it sorted i'm going to cancel and demand my connection fee refunded :thumbsdow
