Toppy 5800: Think I have wasted 120.00...

Got a nasty feeling I have just wasted money on a QED RGB -> Component converter. I asked the 'expert' at SuperFi if the 5800 I was about to order online offers a 'true' component out. he said, 'No, you'll need an active converter from the SCART RGB signal'.

I then read in these forums that it CAN be configured to Component via SCART. I had already bought the QED converter, taken it out of box, binned the box, connected it up in readiness for the Toppy...

So, does it or does it not offer component? Er, and if it does, anyone fancy a nice new RGB converter :-)

EDIT: 5 mins more searching on this forum confims I am MHO (Muppet of Highest Order) & now have shiny new USELESS converter. Off to classifieds

Re: Toppy 5800: Think I have wasted 120.00...

So basically they shop sold you something that you did not require! Although you bought the converter in a shop and you are not covered by the distance selling act you were mis sold the item. You asked the 'experts' advice and the 'expert' told you to buy something that you did not need. I would take the device, a copy of the forum posts and hopefully some manufacturers data sheets into the shop at a nice busy point on say a Saturday. Then ask to speak to the manager, explain you were mis sold the item and ask for a refund. If he refuses show the info from the forums and the manufacturer and state that if you do not get a refund you are reporting them to the local trading standards for mis selling goods.

If you stay calm and just keep stating your case in front of lots of customers you should get your money back.

Good luck and stay calm.

Re: Toppy 5800: Think I have wasted 120.00...

From another retailer I was mis sold a surround speaker system. They told me it had a DAC inside so I could connect my DVD player that did not have analogue 5.1 outputs. Needless to say when it was all set-up I found I could not connect to my DVD player.... so I took straight back a week later (I phoned them of the problem ahead of return) and got a full refund

So there should be no issues with your return/refund.
