At the moment we use BT broadband for our ISP, no real problems, quite happy with it.

I am wondering about upgrading to their Total Broadband package for ISP ( not bothered with telephone ) and would like to know if any one has done this ? and was the switch over easy and worthwhile ?
I had best add that we use an AppleMac but according to BT's website and online tester all should be OK.

Any opinions welcome

Thanks

It will be fine with mac but when your upgrade to that package it means you sign a new 12 month contract.

You should take a look around some other places are offering other deals which may suit your needs.

Broadband has just become available in my area so i went ahead and also ordered Total BT Broadband with the Home Hub and phone. Should have it delievered, up and running by next Friday.

What's the quality like when using the Hub phone to other landlines?

Which is the best Anti-Virus/ firewall suite to use instead as i was just going to use the included Norton suite.

I heard Zone Lab is godd as is availbale to download for free.

I also intend to use P2P file sharing. What's the best software to use for it and what do i need to keep me hidden and from getting caught?

Pretend that you are leaving BT Broadband and ask whether they can offer you anything to stay. We managed to get BT Total Broadband Option 3 for £21.99 for 12 months contract.

Our upgraded service has been up and running since 17/11/2006, there has been a big boost in the general speed from 2 meg to about 5 meg but I have had lots more connection issues when online gaming. Am going to give it a few more days to see if the line settles down otherwise I'm going back to BT to complain. The previous 2 meg service was rock solid.

The included av software is the standard Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Antivirus. People like to complain about Norton (including me in the past) but it seems to work fine for me now. Have swapped back to Norton to give it a go, and no problems for the past few weeks (still use Panda on another PC).

You may as well try the included Norton stuff before shelling out cash needlessly.

Cheers for that. I'll probably use the Norton as like you said, it may work fine.

My line is going to have up to 2mb so that should hopefully be more than sufficent for XBox LIVE as the upload i think is 256kbs or 512kbs

For the fixed 2Mb product upload is 256kbps. Upload isn't really that important unless you are actually hosting a game for multiple players. Good pings are what counts most for gaming.

I got my BT home Hub last week and it's great.

Because i'm very close to the exchange my speeds are a tiny but faster like 288kbs upload and 2,272 Kbps download.

All the equipment works great and have nothing bad to say about it so far

Yes...but you are only on 2mb fixed, not MAX mate.

When your able to get MAX, you will get around 7-8 Meg, probably 600k uploads.
