Very simple question regarding a sub
I'm about to purchase a plasma and sub. However, there won't be much room by the TV for a sub and the only other place there is space is the other side of the room to the right of the sofa we'll be sat on.
My question is - I'll probably have to extend the cables, and I'm just wondering how thick the power cable and the sound cable will be? Will I be able to hide them easily under the carpet alongside the skirting board and under the metal trim under a doorway?

Re: Very simple question regarding a sub
The power cable is usually about the same size as a kettle lead, so quite thick, really...you will have problems completely hiding this one.
the audio connect is the same size as a phono lead, so thinner, and definitely possible to hide against the skirting or track into your underlay completely under the carpet.

Damn, I thought this might be the case.
Oh well, not much I can do about it I suppose.
Do you know where I can purchase longer runs of these cables?

Re: Very simple question regarding a sub
I tend to use: http://www.futureshop.co.uk. I find their prices very reasonable, delivery is quick, and customer service is excellent. Depending on what length you want, and what quality you want, they do the sub audio cable from £12 (cheap 3m) up to £40 (good quality, 10m)
For extending the power, I would either just buy a standard extension cable (rather than a long mains power cable, which is quite pricey) or better still, get an electrician to stick an extra power socket in for you where the sub will be situated!
Cheers

Thanks for your assistance, there is a plug socket near where the sub will be situated anyway - I'd forgotten about that. Thanks again!

Re: Very simple question regarding a sub
Well chuffed with the SVS SB12+ sub I bought! however...
The sub audio cable is 10mm in diameter and is currently trailing from under the sofa across the room to the YSP sound projector that it's plugged into. I know I am gonna have a nightmare trying to conceal this under the carpet around the corner of the room and under a steel carpet grip under a door frame.
I got this run of sub cable from SVS... do they not come any thinner?
Can anyone advise how the heck I'm gonna make some kind of a channel along the side of the room to fit this under the carpet? My house is about 3 yeas old so I think it's concrete floor under there (I'm having trouble getting the carpet up to even find this out)..?
No problem with the power cable as this is plugged in by the sub.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Very simple question regarding a sub
I don't know if it's of any help, but if you look at my 'HT Piccies' below, and then click on the link to the Quicktime panorama (It's 6mb so give it a minute or two), you may or may not be able to see the Mark Grant (see powerbuys in the cables forum) white subwoofer cable.
It runs from the rack along the top of the skirting board up, OVER and down the door frame and round another couple of corners. It's white, the cable clips are white and nobody ever notices it.

Re: Very simple question regarding a sub
Hi Steve
I Had the same requirement for a very think line level cable as you and found Unilet Sound & Vision very helpful. if you give them a call and ask to talk to Anit he will be able to make a custom QED micro subwoofer lead for a very reasonable price that will easily run around the edge of a carpet/skirting board etc.
Tel: ( 020 ) 8942 - 9567
Email: sales@unilet.net
hope this helps
Regards
Nigel
