Does anyone own a Canon Powershot G7 here?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here owns the above camera and what they think of it? I'm after a pro-consumer camera but don't want to make the step up to a DSLR yet as I'm only just starting out.

Many thanks,

Nick.

Yes - got it last week for when I can't be bothered lugging my main kit around.

Very well built, excellent resolution with a good lens, effective IS, noise is fine at 400 and below, usable at 800 and don't-even-bother at 1600. Totally manual and all of the major settings are on the body rather than buried in menus. All-in-all a very decent compact indeed.

Re: Does anyone own a Canon Powershot G7 here?

What size is the camera, will it fit in a pocket ? I still can't decide if I should get something like this or another dSLR body.
I tend to leave my long lens on whilst out walking for my main interest which is wildlife and so miss out on a lot of landscape stuff as I can't be bothered changing the lens whilst out walking ! I just know that as soon as I take the long lens off there will be something I've never seen before out on the lake and I will miss it whilst changing lenses back again
Is this camera good enough to do good landscape photography do you reckon ?

if you have pockets big enough get a good belt! i wouldnt say this was pocketable. I used to have the g3 and have a g5 knocking about somewhere which i love but i just cant be bothered carrying it around. Did they sort that thing out where if you look through the viewfinder you can see the lens barrel? and if you use the filter system or lens adaptor your view is 75% blocked?

Thanks for the replies. Radiohead I don't suppose you could take a picture of the G7 next to something, say a CD case, to get a feeling of size.

Nick.
