I am thinking about switching to Sky broadband, basically to cut costs as I am now shelling out for full Sky and HD, so the £24.99 I pay a month to Wanadoo for my broadband is better spent elsewhere....
Currently I have a 4.5mb (line limit) unlimited download broadband and am paying £24.99 a month to Wanadoo. My email is over pop3 and not web mail. There are two things important to me before I switch, these are:
1. I can retain my Wanadoo email address and collect these using Sky broadband, but keep outlook configured for Wanadoo pop3/stmp. To do this I would simply switch back my Wanadoo account to PAYG.
2. I want to keep using my Linksys wireles router and not the Sky hardware, mainly because my Laptop and Xbox 360 are all configured and working properly on this, I'd just like to re-configure the username / psw. Has anyone done this also as I believe they state you should use their hardware :suicide:
Any suggestions if the above sounds ok or not?
Thanks...
P.S - Does anyone have the prices for the 40gb and unlimited option as I am having problems viewing their site at the moment...
I did the switch over from Wanadoo/Orange back in August. Although I cancelled my Broadband with Orange, I can still check my old Orange email address through the Orange home page. I transferred a fair number of email addresses over to Sky but left a few I'm not that fussed about with Orange. If there's any I want, I just create a new account in Outlook with the pop.orange.co.uk and drag them in. I don't have that as a permanant account as the Orange email address seems to atract around 200 spams a day (not had one single one on Sky...yet)
You can use a different router to that provided by Sky, and there are a few facilities that will extract the hard-wired (and hidden) username and password from the Sky router, but, you will be breaking their T&C's. Whether anyone has been actaully caught out or not, I don't know.
As for the Unlimited Option, if your refering to the Max package - unlimited (?) usage and upto 16Mb download speed, this is a tenner a month.

I have just ordered a migritaion code from Orange today and will transfer to Sky. In my case it's more to do with the frequent disconnections I've been experiencing with Orange. Did the changeover go smoothly? Any things I should be aware of? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers.
My transfer was fairly smooth. To cut a long story short, when we moved I changed packages. I was told it would be a new 12 month contract. I didn't want to commit to 12 months so they offered me 6 with the option to cancel within 28 days. During that 28 days I had no end of problems so phoned to cancel. I was told I was on 12 months and there is no option to cancel within 28 days. I ended up emailing the CEO of Orange and a number of senior bods. A senior customer relations woman contacted me on behalf of whoever the CEO is and put my contract back to 6 months and offered me a number of months for free.
I had a weeks downtime prior to the change to Sky and I contacted her again to say I wanted to cancel. I got my migration that way rather than through the 'Technical Support'. Sky did say that they do get a lot of migration codes given by Orange that don't work. How true that actually is, I don't know. Mine was OK and I was sent a transfer date letter. I think it was due to change over on a Monday, but I noticed on the Friday that the Orange light had gone on the Livebox, so plugged in the Sky one and was away.
All in all, pretty straight forward, it might just be getting the MAC code from Orange that could be difficult.

This is interesting.
I am with Orange, pay £12.99 a month for 2gb download limit and getting normally around 4.6 connection.
Just bought a PS3 so want to do online gaming, been with Sky for years so seriously tempted, however i know two people that have left SKY and gone back to BT becuase they had nothing but problems.
I have been with Orange since it was Freeserve and PAYG dial up. I have an older computer (upgrade needed) can i continue to use my Speedtouch modem for broadband when on SKY or can i hard wire the router. My computer is not wireless, PS3 obviously is.
Cheers

You can get problems with any provider. I'm sure plenty of people have left BT to go to Sky & been perfectly happy (and I'm sure plenty of Orange customers too)
The sky router has 4 ethernet ports so you can use it hard wired so long as your PC has network capability.
