Differences between DV78 & DV79?

Hi,
Looking to make the leap to an Arcam DVD player very shortly and am looking at 2nd hand either DV78 or DV79. I'm wondering what the differences are apart from the HDMI port and analogue 5.1 out.
Really appreciate some info.

Thanks in advance

Dan.

The main differences are the HDMI output and DVD-Audio Playback on the DV79.

Hi Crustyloafer, by DVD-Audio playback, could you elaborate..
Simply it will not play DVD-Audio discs?

May I assume they use same quality/same audio circuits and video circuits etc?

If so, that'd be great. It'd have to be a DV78 for me and save my money.

Re: Differences between DV78 & DV79?

Dankeech,

I purchased a DV78 as I had no need for DVD-A playback or HDMI. The dealer advised that to all intents and purposes, the rest of the circuitry was the same. The money I saved started the Kitty towards a CD192/36. An excellent bit of kit and top value new or second hand.

The DV78 will play DVD-Audio discs but cannot read or decode the high resolution MLP audio soundtracks which is the whole point of DVD-Audio. It will only play the compressed Dolby Digital or DTS soundtracks depending on what's on the disc.
