Digital Photo Frames
Are they any good? Thinking of buying my parents one for xmas.
It doesnt have to be the last word in quality, but I think they will like the idea of being able to have a slideshow of all thier favourite pics.
Found this 7" one on Amazon which seems really cheap (£69.99)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ATMT-7inch-D...&s=electronics
But who are ATMT, never heard of them and a quick web search hasnt found anything. It also doesnt give much info on resolution, accepted memory cards etc..
Everywhere else, 7" screens are well over £100, especially with MP3 and remote!
Is this a bargain or best avoided?
£69.99)

The screen resolution doesn't seem all that fantastic, I think the Philips 7" version has about 3 times that resolution but is twice the price so you get what you pay for.
It'd be better if you could see one running for yourself first, but I suppose you could always buy one and try it out to see if it's acceptable to you or not. I think Amazon have a no quibble returns policy don't they?

Re: Digital Photo Frames
I happened to see the gadget show (what a paragon of accuracy they are) a few weeks ago when they were discussing digital photo frames and they didn't like any that they tested. They were hard to use, resolution wasn't decent and they generally didn't have screens that were up to most lighting conditions.
I love the concept but I think the products have yet to mature into things worth buying.

Re: Digital Photo Frames
I've got the Philips too and think its great
It is a high end model with a high end price compared to most 7" screens on the market but am more than satisfied with my purchase.

Re: Digital Photo Frames
I bought a cheap 8"one off ebay for my mum and although the build quality wasn't that great I was surprised how nice it looked. I did get it for a song though ( about 70quid).

FWIW I have an ATMT external hard drive with multi card reader. It's well built and works well.

Re: Digital Photo Frames
I paid £85 for my first Philips 7" brand new off ebay and £82 for the next one, a shop returned model, in perfect order just the box had been opened, via Amazon.

Re: Digital Photo Frames
You could try making one:
Sorry mods if I've made a faux pas by linking.
Theres a link about halfway down on the first page that links to a site outlining quite a few projects. Fancy it myself but the missus wont let me play with electrics.

Had to delete the link you posted mate as you do need to be a member there before you can view the post.

Re: Digital Photo Frames
I think the Mrs might like one, and scouting about i notice a new Philips 9" version is out soon (20/11/06) with more features, but only £10 more @ £159.99: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...s/Product.html
Anyone know if there's any other new models coming out by then?
