Question Portable dvd player 3.5 to 3.5 video cable ?

Hi, I am looking for a 3.5 to 3.5 video to video cable to connect the kids two portable dvd players together in the car, so they can watch the same films, but all I can find is the 3.5 cables that split into the seperate yellow and black plugs, for plugging into a TV or the like.

I would be gratefull if anyone could point me in the right direction to buy a cable or point out if I could make up.

Thanks
Sconie

I simply use a sound cable and there is no quality difference between the two screens

Hmmmm, I have tried that, but the second screen shows in black and white only, I thought that was due to the cable make up, so I take it the cables are basicly the same ?

Cheers.

Re: Portable dvd player 3.5 to 3.5 video cable ?

The impedance is different but this is something you may neglect as we are not talking about high-end equipment here
Technically there are two wires in both cables: signal and ground.

Black and white usually happens for two reasons:
- Setting output to RGB but it is only S-VHS (or the other way around, can't remember which one)
- Playing an NTSC disk and set PAL or Auto in the video setting instead of NTSC (doubt this will be your case)

I suspect you need to adjust the video settings in the setup to output the proper video signal

Thanks for that, I may have the problem, one of the players is an american region 1 polaroid player and the other is a uk spec model, when I send the picture to the USA player I get a good picture, but when I try the USA to Uk I am black and white, so it may be a hardware problem.

Re: Portable dvd player 3.5 to 3.5 video cable ?

This is not a hardware issue but NTSC vs PAL, different video standards.
If you could switch the UK player to output NTSC (which should be possible) it could help. The US player will only understand NTSC anyway

Re: Portable dvd player 3.5 to 3.5 video cable ?

I just bought two LG DP170 dvd players for the kids to watch in the car and have been searching for the 3.5 to 3.5 video cable too.

I instead bought an adaptor that plugged the original AV leads that came with the machines into each other.

I can get the picture to work on both but when I plug the audio plug into the machine which is playing the speakers are 'muted'. So I end up with two screens working but only the 'slave' machine with sound.

My kids are too small to wear headphones (not sure if it would make any difference anyway) so I really want sound from both units.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone out there could help me out.

Cheers
