Which Mobo?
CPU
Core 2 Duo E6600
RAM
2 Gig DDR2 PC6400 2 x 1024MB
Graphics Card
Geforce 7900GTO 512MB PCI-E
I am looking for a Dual/Quad Core ready motherboard which will be as futureproof as possible and not massively expensive. I understand the 7900GTO's cooler will block one of the PCI slots, so do I need a certain type of mobo to use 2 graphic cards in the future? I was looking at the Asus P5B but there are so many to choose from its very confusing when your not an IT expert. This is my first time building a PC.
Can anyone suggest a good suitable mobo please?

Re: Which Mobo?
i've heard good reports about the Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 - good alrounder from other forums i've read.
I think most of them are all about the same.

Re: Which Mobo?
I've got the DS4 with a 6600 and it's a great board. The recently released F6 BIOS enables support for the quad core CPUs so you're covered for the future.
Edit - The DS4 won't do SLI, so if that's important to you, I think your options are limited to nVidia based boards. If CrossFire is acceptable, then you can use some Intel based boards.

Re: Which Mobo?
Thanks for the replies.
Is there a mobo you could recomend that would do SLI, to further future-proof myself? Does it matter that the 7900GTO I have got is very large due to the cooling system on it? I have read about people using using 2 x 7900GTO's so I presume SLI is possible with them. I was under the impression that the cooling system on the card would obstruct the 2nd PCI-E slot?
This is my first build, so bear with me on the noob questions.

Re: Which Mobo?
It entirely depends on the motherboard layout. You'd need to look at the nVidia 5xx series motherboards. I'm sure a scout on their website will list the various chipsets and the benefits of each one.
Really though, do you think you'll need SLI? I suspect you'll be better off putting the money towards a DX10 card sometime next year.

No, your right tbh. I won't really need SLI I dont think.
I think I will get one of these two:

or

Anyone have any opinions, suggestions or experience with these 2 boards?

Re: Which Mobo?
It is a crossfire board though, but IMO ati are better than nvidia so you can upgrade to an ati dx10 card in the future.

then it should be able to run SLI.
I know the Intel badaxe (975X chipset) can run SLI - you have to used hacked drivers to get it to work. But it should work on any crossfire board

Re: Which Mobo?
Yep, go for the asus if you think you may need dual graphics in the future, sli or crossfire. Go for the gigabyte ds3 if you want the best clocking board and want to save 40 quid.

Re: Which Mobo?
I don't think I will use dual graphics cards in the future. Will upgrade to a DX10 card eventually. Will be using a Nvidia 7900GTO card initially. The P5B Deluxe is £42 more that the P5B shown above. With that in mind which mobo would you go for?

Re: Which Mobo?
Theres new boards out end of this month to coincide with nivdia 80 card on around 11th November. These have 3 slots so you can SLI and use something like a physx card so thats the most future proof your going to get.
