2gang 2way varilight installation

Can someone help?

I have two varilight dimmer switches, one slave, one master (both 2 gang) I'm attempting to have them in a room which at the moment is just 2 gang 2 way switches at each door into the room (like a top-bottom stairs setup).

How can I install the master and the slave to enable control from either side of the room, I have had an attempt but to no avail. The terminal markings on the dimmers are different to those on the normal switches so I'm not sure if its a drop in change or I must have a different circuit set up.

If I need a different circuit how can I do this without destroying my lovely new plastrered walls!

Sorry if the above isn't too clear, but help would be most appreciated!!

Cheers

What cables do you have at each point? do you have a test meter or some kind of voltage indicator to confirm the live cable?

I haven't yet, but I would be able to get hold of one. I know which are the main lives, its the rest which are a puzzle.

Re: 2gang 2way varilight installation

Evening mate.
Does your house have the old wiring colours or new.

Red, Black. / Red, Yellow, Blue.
Brown,Blue. / Brown, Black, Grey.

Either way, just replace colour for colour as above.
The master should go where you have 2 cables coming in to the backbox.

Connect the following:

Master -------------------------------------------- Slave

Both Red's to LIVE --------------------------------- Red

Yellow to S ---------------------------------------- Yellow

Blue and Black (symbol with sine wave and arrow) ---------- Blue.

If you have different wiring configurations to standard, you may have to take a couple of
pics for us.
Try that first though mate.
