Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
Guys,
Hi all, little confusion here, please help.
I have the Denon 1005 speakers which are great, and have recently got a Yamaha rvx100 reciever.
However im confused on how to connect the subwoofer to the reciever
On the back of the sub i have, two red and white sockets which say
Line in L, (White)
Line in R, (Red)
Or High Bass out L (White)
High Bass out R (Red)
This is the red and white connection leads, but on the amp i have one (black) subwoofer connection, do i need a different lead for this?? or do i just connect one of the red/white leads?
Also on back off subwoofer i have a switch for Ground in or out? Which one, please help
Regards

Re: Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
A sub cable has one of these at each end http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PH101.html you should connect to line in L or R it should not make a difference. The grounding switch is to stop hum (earth loop), so if you hear humming from the speaker switch it over.

Re: Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
So i dont need a red n white phone to connect to amp.
I can connect to Line in L or R yeah.
Cant i use the red/white phonos i have,
ie, white to Line in L, then the white to the single black jack on amp as they look the same connector as the subwoofer lead you showed me!
Sorry!

Re: Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
No reason why not but do suggest getting a decent cable that is designed to support low frequencies (A Sub Woofer cable).

Re: Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
The cable i have got is very good quality
So i can basically attach white from Sub to the sub out on the reciever?
Or should it be red from sub to the sub out on reciever?
Sorry new to this!
I take it there isnt such a thing as a special sub lead huh, you can use a good quality red/white phone lead and use say just the white or red section, or am i getting this soooo wrong!
Cheers

Re: Confusion on amp to reciever connection?
Sub out on amp to left line in on sub is the norm, but it doesn't really matter.
A sub cable is basically a normal phono cable, so you could use half of a stereo cable.
"Proper" sub cables tend to have better shielding, to stop the pickup of interference and mains hum. Try your existing cable, and buy a different one if you have problems.
