Can I temporarily substitute hi-fi interconnect for component cable?

Hi there

Just bought my first projector (PT-AX100) and unfortunately the SCART to S-video cable which works fine from Freeview box to my CRT, doesn't seem to like going to my projector. Think I have it all set up OK (Freeview set to output S-video, projector set to PAL tv system etc) so I'm going instead to buy a QED RGB to component converter for £70.

The thing is, I don't want to splash out on a new RGB SCART cable and a component cable too and then find I still can't get a picture, so I am hoping to just buy the converter and use leads that I already have to test it with. I can borrow an RGB SCART from my CRT TV, and I was wondering whether I could 'borrow' the interconnects that I use to connect my hi-fi separates together and use these as component cables (I have 2 cables between amp and cd player, and another 2 between amp and radio, so I would just take 3 of these). I hope this isn't a dumb question, it's just that I seem to recall reading that component leads were basically just like hi-fi interconnects in that they are a high quality electrical signal carrier?

Any help much appreciated!!

Assuming the leads are the same length then I see no problem with this for testing purposes.

They are just coaxial cables terminated with phono plugs at the end of the day.

Are you just getting no picture on the projector or is it black and white?

The picture I am getting at present is basically grey with areas of really pronounced colour ie somebody may have a few dollops of orange on their cheek, a bright red tie and a bright blue shirt.

I don’t think the lead is faulty as I’ve tried precisely the same set up on my CRT eg same cables, Freeview box settings, aerial extension lead etc, and it gives a perfectly normal picture on the CRT.
