Exclamation Anyone actually seen a 1080p dvd

If so, what's it like? I'm thinking it must be amazing.

Re: Anyone actually seen a 1080p dvd

There's no such thing as a 1080p DVD.

I think you mean HD DVD or even Blu-ray at 1080p

By all accounts they should look pretty spectacular even shown at 1080i on a typical 768 line display.

Has anyone out there seen a disc shown at 1080p on a 1080p display yet?

Should be good.

My dear Evil Engineer, that´s not correct, there´s a lot of 1080P DVDs for sale, containing WMV-HD files.

Like this one.:

Re: Anyone actually seen a 1080p dvd

My understanding that the WMV-HD discs were encoded at 720p so that they would fit on a DVD-9.

Besides the point is moot. There are only about 30 discs to choose from and the format is totally dead now that we have HD DVD/Blu-ray.

No the discs, like Coral Adventures are both 720p and 1080p. From the start-up screen, you select one of the two. I know because I have 10 or 15 of those.

Shown? Own!

My DVDO iScan VP50 deinterlaces 1080i to 1080p from Toshiba HD DVD player which looks awesome on my Pioneer PDP-5000EX (50-inch 1080p) plasma.

Sky HD, especially BBC HD, deinterlaced to 1080p looks PDG too.

Re: Anyone actually seen a 1080p dvd

hi,
yes, i saw the panny blue hooked up to the all new 65px600 ,1080p panel.
considering that the panel was not perfectly set up , it was an excellent picture, even standard dvds were an improvement.
but the all important question is : is it worth the money ?

Do you mean HD DVD or BD on a 1920x1080 native res display? I can certainly say that HD DVD look's stunning on 8' wide screen from a 1920x1080 PJ

Crazy price For those that "just must have it" Movietyme have the region A version with 5 titles for £899 or just the player for £849. Who knows what region B is going get in the way of movies until PS3 launches.

I bought my HD DVD player for less than the difference between these prices !

If that's the Tosh "1080" plasmas they are not 1080p. These plasmas are ALiS and are in fact interlacing displays, and display 1920x1080i ... they cannot display 1080p.

What you need is a progressive 1920x1080 display.
