Pioneer US BD Player postponed until 2007 ?

According to this the Pioneer BD-HD1 will not launch in the US until 2007. I wonder what this does to the European launch date ?

"Well as of today Pioneer has confirmed that the BDP-HD1 has been delayed until January due to technical issues (which aren't being specified anything beyond that). A limited number of BETA units will start showing up in retail in 2 weeks but they will not be for sale period! They will play titles fine but most of the additional features will not work. It's just a way to allow the public to see the unit and its performance. As well as letting the retailer take pre-orders"

Well if it is delayed and it doesn't support BD-Live when released in 2007, or isn't upgradable, then I think Pioneer have messed up big time. Especially as the Samsung and Panasonic are now available on both sides of the Atlantic and the Sony player looks like shipping on Oct. 25th in the US. If those 3 units are replaced in mid 2007 then they'd have had a lifespan similar to 1G Toshibas. Still priced too high though.
