That should be fine mate. Maybe not with all options maxed out, but it should run it well.

Not a chance in hell, never, ever at max would be more the truth.
My machine just manages to run it maxxed, and it still stutters a bit outdoors.
I would think your machine would struggle even at medium settings. Oblivion is renowned for bringing even the most powerful desktop PCs to their knees :lesson:

What res do you have your monitor on mate?

Thanks for that.
I’m reading conflicting views on whether I should go with a single or dual processor. I’m a bit out of touch with the latest pc tech but reading an entry on wikipedia it states that most current games will run faster on a 3 GHz single core processor than on a 2 GHz dual core. It appears to depend on the use of multiple threads within the applications.

well my machine is crap but it runs it on medium no problem and it is nothing compared to that brilliant laptop, (i have Nvidia geforce 6600, 1GB RAM, 3ghz CPU) imo i think he could probably run it on high with few to little lag  good luck mate

Sorry people, but laptop graphic cards are diff to the desktop ons
The Nvidia 7900 is the best laptop card you can get today
Observe: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3260&review=WidowPC
It will breeze through Oblivion.
Sorry, but I find on this forum a lot of misinformation concerning laptop gpu's, as people try to attribute them to be the same as desktop gpu's. I don't mean to sound rude, sorry if I do. I'm just getting a point across. Also apologies if you wasn't mistaking them for desktop ones

Is your Rock one of the new ones with the Core 2 Duo processor? I'm thinking of getting one of these myself, but have they said they'll be sticking the new gfx card in it soon?

yep, my order has the Core2Duo 7400, and the7900gtx, but the new card is due out any day now with all current backorders including mine to be fitted with the new card at no extra cost...the downside is that we all have to wait until 1st week of Nov which isnt too far away in reality. :)

Thanks for all the feedback on this. What spec is your XPS?
I'm looking getting a M1710 rather than the Acer I originally mentioned now.

Pras, my soon to arrive Rock has almost identical spec incl screen res. What kind of performance are you getting from recent FPS games running at 1920 resolutions?
I wonder how well it would run MS Flight Sim X...:)
Cheers

I dont actually play many games these days. But I was running Doom 3, Quake 4, Call of duty 2, Obilvion and full res and max settings!! The movement (frames per second) is very fuild. Its very suprising how it runs when using battery power!!!
