It cannot be made region free by its handset.
You have to have a programmable remote. You can hire a suitable handset for £22.

You can also get a all-in-one remote and use that to send a code to the player to make it region free. There are details on how to do this in other threads. or you can just hire a single-use remote from dvdchips or the like.
