Unhappy Satellite freezing

We have a Pace Sky+ box which is only a couple of months old. Tonight we noticed for the first time programmes freezing after about 30 seconds. If you move on to another channel it starts to play OK then freezes. However this does not happen with every channel. All Sky Sports channels affected, as is Sky 1. BBC1, BBC2 and Five are not affected (these are only ones I have tried out thus far).
Found suggestion in another forum that this is due to driving of LNB and difference in affect on channels is due to vertical and horizontal polarities.
Any one know if this is correct and possible solution (other than calling an engineer).
Cheers

Re: Satellite freezing

Yes and also if the channels are hi or low band channels. The problem is usually either 3 things

1. the dish is slightly out of alignment
2. the LNB has a fault on either the high or low band or H or V channels
3. the receiver has a faulty tuner

cheers Franc

Re: Satellite freezing

Yesterday the problem appeared to have cleared or at least it didn't affect any of channels I looked at. Tonight it's back but on different set of channnels. Tonight Sky Sport OK but Movie channels, Five and Disney Cinema not.

Re: Satellite freezing

Further bizarre twist to this. The program freezes when viewed live. Recording of same program does not freeze.

Re: Satellite freezing

I had a similar problem, but only occured when recording another channel.

Needed a new box

SWMBO was most aggreived that the 10 unwatched episodes of 24 were lost.

Re: Satellite freezing

Going from bad to worse. All channels now give 'No signal being received' but still records and can be watched as it records. Obviously a problem with box. How can it not be receiving signal but still record? Obviously it can't, must be a signal; but it is not being recognised.

Not obviously a fault in the box - there are two tuners in the box Tuner 1 is normally the one used for viewing
and Tuner 2 is the one first used for recording.

Go into "Services" "System Setup" "Signal Test" you should have "signal quality" readings of over 50% and Lock indicator OK on both inputs.

The problem may lie in your lnb or cabling to the lnb. Do not plug or unplug anything with the mains power on. Try checking the lnb cable connectors at the back of the box are tight - particularly input 1. If they appear OK unscrew them and swap them. Check signal quality readings as before if the fault has swapped inputs the fault lies in your lnb /cabling. If it has not swapped channel the fault is in your dodgibox.
