Quad cores no good for gaming?

This article http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34916

Claims that quad cores wont work so well for gaming.

Not for the first year or more after release of these quad core chips.

Personaly, if they dont offer any real improvement for gaming Im not going to invest in a kentsfield or whatever AMD offer.

I think that since we are only now starting to see some dual core games its going to be a lot longer before we see any quad core games.

Only high profile games will support it so it might be too costly and investment for only a handfull of games.

Re: Quad cores no good for gaming?

Well if the developers don't program the game to take advantage of Quad Core then no, Quad Core gaming will be just the same as normal gaming.

The only game that I've heard is going to have Quad Core support is Alan Wake.

Exactly. All this talk of 80 cores and no one mentiones 64 bit over 32.

And even worse news also at Inquirer is that Windows Vista will be 10 to 15% slower for gaming than XP. But its a "take it or leave it" scenario as only vista will use DX10....

One again, that is software manufactuers fault. They just can't be bothered to develop software for the x64 platform.

Yes, but that is with current games that have been designed for XP. Once we start getting games that have been designed for the Vista, you *should* see a massive difference.

Re: Quad cores no good for gaming?

So will the x64 vista sell then?

I am personally gutted x64 seems to have gone out the window.
