Just to remind y'all:

All your media files are now ours (http://www.st.com/stonline/stappl/press/news/year2006/t2070.htm)

The TPM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module) present on many PC's enables suppliers of content such as movies to withdraw your access to the content arbitrarily; you cannot stop them. Vista makes the TPM you may not know is there available to them. It's also available to you to securely encrypt your stuff, and of course that's the benefit featured in the marketing materials.

The reason that Microsoft is so keen that you should get music and movies on an "all you can eat" subscription basis, is that this forces you to give them access once a month to "renew" your permission. That's also the reason why you should support buy-to-own downloads that require no further connection to the internet to "refresh" them. No wonder Hollywood is fighting Apple over this. For now at least, Apple is on your side, Microsoft isn't.

Just so's you know, as you follow the pied piper.;)
