As the title says, as soon as Windows Vista Launches in January, will i be able to walk into say PC world and buy a PC with Vista and maybe a HD-DVD Drive or will they not be available for a few months after.

Thing is i'm getting Broadband this december. It will be connected to my XBox but i will need a New PC and don't want to go down the route of having one built. I just want to be able to go and buy a Vista PC connect it up and be off and running in Januray

Are the Retail PC's likely to be availabale as soon as the OS is lanched in January?

Sometime around Jan 07. You can build your own vista capable PC.

They should be, basically the code is being finalised now and should become final sometime early November. At that point Microsoft will release this version to OEM computer manufactures to test with all their hardware and finalise their driver designs and code. By the time Vista becomes publicly available, PC manufacturers will be releasing systems.

That's what i like to hear.

I am off on Hoilday during January and comming back Early Febuary. That's when i want to get a new PC.

I'm after one with Vista, LIVE Anywhere and Hopefully a HD-DVD Drive. I don't want to go down the custom route either.

Plus when buying retail machines, your not really paying top wack for the OS Seperately

Fair enough, but have some dignity and don't go to PC World :suicide: You will pay much less by buying online somewhere else.

Also, that HD-DVD drive is going to cost you! Unless you are planning on going out and buying lots of HD-DVD movies after Xmas I wouldn't bother. If you must get one, surely a HD-DVD drive for your Xbox would make more sense?

Sound advice, for the love of god do not buy a PC from PC World. Any PC that you by from PC World for Vista will meet the bare minimum requirements (which in the case of Vista is not good)

About the HD-DVD, that is really going to cost you.

Thanks for the Advice. Would it be better to order direct from someone like Dell?

I will have a large budget of 1k for a tower. Screen, i am using my TV

I won't be needing a HD-DVD Drive either now as this morning Microsoft have announced that the XBox 360 HD-DVD Player will work on Windows Media Centre and Vista. :smashin: Cheers Microsoft

Hi,agree with prev posts on PC World, except its worth looking on there website/shop(or sometimes instore).Sometimes some good offers & most you can reserve & pick up from store, for a lot cheaper than instore prices.

Cheers BOB

What possible reason is there to want to use Vista? :god:Well apart from the new audio sub system, along with the new graphics sub-system. Not to mention DirectX 10, no reason at all.

Well apart from the new audio sub system, along with the new graphics sub-system. Not to mention DirectX 10, no reason at all.

Okay, fine, thanks, confirmed my belief there's nothing of any substance .. XP does audio and video just fine for me and the only DX10-only games announced hold no interest for me. :)

And I have no desire for a copied-from-the-MAC GUI.

Just which aspects of Vista's A/V are actually useful?

How many time have we heard this? "I don't need Windows XP, Windows Me suits me fine".

You'll be using Vista in a years time like everyone else.

Its interesting to see a new generation requesting next generation products, but prepared to spend there hard earned in PC World!

PC's aren't like an xbox 360, you really can customise them to your exact requirements. PC world not only has poor customer service (in any dealings ive had with them) but also inflated prices compared to custom builders where you'll get exactly the same warranty and better customer service!

Its good to see some PC manufacurers (Mesh) ahead of the game with Core 2 Duo and Vista Capable PC's. Even if they are in bog standard cases, and use cheaper secondary components.

Not all the software I use works on a DOS extender (aka. Window 95).

Why XP? because it was easier to obtain than Win2K when I set my current systems up.
