Upgrade to watch my HD-D1

Ok little help here

I currently have a 32" lcd tv 1366x768 and is awsome for watching with my HD-D1 but i am thinking about getting a slight upgrade maybe a 42" plasma or possible a projector.

I need a few ideas if anyone can help i would prefer cheap as possible but not cheap that spoils viewing enjoyment

Don't go cheap, look at Panasonics first and foremost and shortly behind Pioneers and see what you get for you money (plasmas). If you can't afford these, wait. Re Projectors things get more interesting, my pick would bee a cheapie PX200, more money Infocus 76 or hold out for Pearl (will see next week).

Re: Upgrade to watch my HD-D1

Get a projector.

You already have a good TV (do you have a good TV?) which is handy for watching normal telly plus gaming etc.

A PJ is a perfect companion and you can get one for around £900 online. Current generation favourites (and at good prices as they are being replaced now)

Sanyo Z4
Panasonic AE900
Hitachi TX200

All great projectors, all 720p, all will look *amazing* with a HDDVD player - you'll never realise just how good until you see one.

Get one - you'll never regret it.

edit: I've not suggested expensive stuff as you mention cheap would be good. In this case, these 'cheap' PJs give you almost unbeatable value for money. Then in a couple of years you can look at upgrading TV or PJ as you desire.

Depends how much you want to spend. If I were you I wouldn't bother with a 42inch plasma if you already have a 32inch LCD...its not enough of a step up in picture size (I think my 43inch Pio screen is small now I've got used to it!). Either get a projector (or a 50inch+ plasma if you can afford it).

I respectfully disagree. Assuming the 32" is a widescreen, you will have a 72% increase in real estate going to a 42" screen. Being the geek engineer, I did a spreadsheet a few years ago when upgrading from my 14-yr old 27" GE analog TV. I went to a 36" Toshiba (4:3), then 34" Sony (16:9) to a 42" plasma. The recent increase from my 34" was a huge difference - over 50% larger.

So going from a 32" would be a bigger difference than you realize...

Dave2 - and like yourself, I'm enjoyng the wonderful world of HD DVD (Tosh XA1) on my plasma...I say go for it!!!

My Hitachi 42HDT52A has been aweing myself and friends since I bought it a few months ago. Next to the XA1, it's the best investment I've made for my video system...

Good luck!
