It does look good doesn't it, I'm seriously tempted but need to get myself a NAS first I think :)

Hi John,

Well a NAS is certainly useful, but you can still enjoy the benefits of Sonos without a NAS using the audio stored on your PC, or internet radio. Also, for many people the size of their audio collection is quite small in terms of currently available storage, so a low cost, single drive NAS is often more than adequate. The multi drive NAS units such as the Infrant are really about building huge amounts of online storage for video as well as audio.

Another consideration is the increase in streamed audio - going forward this has to be the future rather than maintaining huge personal catalogues of audio on local storage. Sonos of course lets you do both :)

cheers
David

Yes I had thought about using it with the music stored on my PC, but I think it will be far more convenient to have all my music on one NAS and then there's no need to have a PC switched on all the time.
I was looking at the Qnap range as they have an inbuilt ftp server as well as supporting multiple USB drives off the back and also slimserver software. But I think this might be overkill if I'm just going to use it with Sonos, so might look at one of the Buffalo range which are cheaper.
