I have a DVD on my hard disc. What is the simplest method of ripping the audio from this to produce a CD, (hopefully) using freeware?

I think you need a "demuxing" tool which splits the audio and video into separate files.

Have a look here, there's various ones to choose from:

Big_VernYup, all you need to do is de-multiplex the file to get the audio and visual streams. :smashin:

I've used Imtoo DVD Audio Ripper (http://***************/dvd-audio-ripper.html)to do just that.

It's not free, but I think the demo version can do 5 minutes at a time, which is OK for songs! You extract to MP3 or wav, and then burn the files to audio CD using another program.

I should have mentioned that the files are in DVD_RTAV format (from my external DVD writer). As far as I can tell the commercial software packages I've looked at can't handle this type of folder. Sorry not to have given the whole story to start with!

It's the format produced by my Panasonic DVD writer.
