Hello,
I run MCE2005 via a 32" HDMI LCD via a HDMI cable. I was interested in buying an upscaling DVD standalone player but then thought maybe the PC can do this for me? Does anyone know if this is possible, also if so which software i need to buy?
Thanks in advance

Any DVD software, be in PowerDVD or MCE will upscale DVD to the resolution your PC is set to. So if you set your PC resolution to 1280x720 or 1900x1080 then any DVD's you play would be upscaled to 720p or 1080p respectively.

The Graphics Cards does the scaling - not the software. Set the display output on your PC to whatever the native resolution of LCD is.

If you want to do it properly you want to use ffdshow using the lanczos algorithm to upscale, it produces far better results that leaving it to your graphics card. Do a search for 'ffdshow' on these forums, theres loads of info. :)

sorry to dig an old post seemed better than starting a new one, would this upscalling method produce the same picture quality as a retail upscalling dvd player or better/worse?
thanks

ffsdhow is free and can produce great results. Good upscaling players a tad more expensive.
Follow pRot3us' advice. It is worth a go for free before plunging for a player. can use the cash for other stuff then !
