Can anyone suggest a good AGP graphics card for around the £100 mark please?
I currently have a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro which no longer works.
The choices are so bewildering. I mainly play MMORPG's like WOW or EQ2, although I do like the odd FPS.
Many thanks for any suggestions. :)

Is the Geforce 7600 GS a good card?

If you can find a second hand 6800GT or similar then that is probably your best bet, although that might be difficult with your budget as AGP prices continue to inflate. The 7600GS would be a decent upgrade yet not a huge one but is just about the best you can do if buying new.

I was thinking either the 7600 GS or the older 6600 GT. In your opinion which is better? I was leaning towards the 7600 GS, but I have read that there isn't much difference between this and the older 6600 GT. Any thoughts?

If you can stretch it a little bit, you can get a 7600gt for around £130 I think, but if you need to stick to the £100, then go for the 7600GS as it does beat the 6600gt (only a bit mind you, but I can't see a AGP 6600gt anywhere brand new).

My local PC shop has offered me a AGP 6600 GT for £100. I was wondering whether the 7600 GS would be better as it's a lot newer and I think it's cheaper as well. The shop says they are having trouble finding a 7600 GS that is AGP compatible. Any suggestions?

Have a look here http://overclockers.ru/lab/22207.shtml

Its a russian site, the the benchmarks are in graphs, so you can see the difference.

overclockers have a 7600GS AGP version for £105 with £8 shipping, total of £115.

In the end, its up to you to decide whether its worth the extra £15 for the 7600gs. Looking at the benchmarks, it seems a difference if around 2-7fps.

The GS doesn't have a fan, so should be quieter.

I think thats the 512mb version though thats £105. The 256mb version is £79.97 here: http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/CLUB3D62?speedtrapid=froogle&lead=froogle

Is the 256mb version significantly inferior?

Since I don't know what version their using in the link I gave I can't be sure, although I'm sure I've read that only high end cards need more than 256Megs though.

Just had a look at tomshardware graphics cards charts, and in that they use the 256MB version, and it does seem to beat the 6600gt. (although the 6600gt version used is the 128MB version - so its kinda hard to say)

Thanks for the advice, I dont think the 7600 GT comes in AGP so thats a none starter. I think I will go for the 7600 GS over the 6600 GT.

An AGP 7600GT hasn't long been released, but as far as I can see only overclockers have it, and including delivary, it comes to nearly £145, so thats a bit over your budget lol.

Shame. Just replaced an old 9250 (!) with a 7600GT from overclockers for £75+vat.

Bang for the buck doesn't come much better. With no grass and everything else up max, it plays oblivion well at 1600x1200.

I went for a ATI X800XT 256Mb DDR AGP from Ebay. Brand new, 1 year warranty, £109.99.

Turned out to be an replica! All the specs were wrong

I'm very tempted by a XFX 6800XTreme 256mb AGP card. Clock Rate: 350 Mhz. Memory Clock: 1Ghz. DDR3. £80.00.

Is it work paying £111.00 for a Geforce 7600GS? My budget is very tight and I really don't want to go over £100 unless its a bargain.

I only really play MMORPG;s like EQ2 and WoW at the moment.

Isn't the 7600GT I bought from overclockers a better card within your budget, at £75+vat?

He needs AGP, so the cheapest AGP 7600gt is around £140 (the only one available actually).

Damn, missed or forgot about that. I'm old and confuse easily.

Although for £140, I'd prefer a 7600GT PCIe and a cheapie PCIe board... :)

There is one here for £111.26. Out of stock though, and I need one now unfortunately. Her's the link though if anyone wants a 7600GT.
